BUT its a lot of fun setting off car alarms, im up to about 17 now including flattening my store managers car battery so he had to stay and wait for recovery to get him. TAKE THAT!!

![]() Big Lad Little Car ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: North West (Warrington) | To all you folks quoting your outrageous power figures, please read the continuous power part of this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audio_power And also power caps....... Why? There's no need unless youre pulling a continuous 1000w or so. If youre worried about your battery, put a better one in with a better alty. This is usually a cheaper and less space consuming option than a power cap that will make any tangible difference (assuming you are, infact, pulling 1000w continuous). I thought these myths had been dispelled

Posts: 1672 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: flat out in the 160'd r100 | Tommy why do you have a power cap for one sony sub? :/ ive put a vibe black air 10" into the saxo today purely for the fact of less weight the better. ill get a pic taken tomorrow and throw it up! My metro will have nothing but good front components and potentially 6x9s in the rear quarters. other than that the saxo will be the whip if you wana listen to some tunes

Capacitors aren't intended or even designed to "hold extra charge", that just isn't what they do. What they are for is to prevent your amps (and in turn the drivers that they power) from crapping out when there is a voltage peak (for instance, a heavy bass drum note or prolonged wob-wob on a sub). Their purpose is to maintain output strength, and therefore sound quality regardless of the demands a particular music track may make. If your audio amps are draining your battery, then you need a red or yellow top (or another battery with a decent figure for cranking amps), thats the long and short of it. A capacitor WILL NOT save you from battery death in maccies carpark with your engine switched off and your sub up on full gain. In short, Capacitor does not = Battery. ![]()

If what you are saying is true then why is it called a "capacitor" surely that would be the wrong name for it... Any how doubles up as a nice in line tester so im not really bothered.

Yeah, but not like a second battery or a HO battery/red or yellow top. Theyre like an emergency resevoir of current. But if youre drawing enough juice to ACTUALLY NEED a cap, your alty and battery would have kicked the bucket by now. If youre an electronics nerd... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor Also, read 2.6 of this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_audio#Capacitors And these weren't hard to find http://www.caraudio.com/forums/wiring-electrical-installation-help/426247-capacitor-worth.html http://www.ecoustics.com/electronics/forum/car-audio/409374.html Don't mean to piss on your chips mate, but you might as well have a lava lamp in there as line tester for all the goo a cap does. Or better yet, an actual solution... An actual voltage meter (yeah they exist too). Edited by jeckulz 22/5/2012 10:22 PM
