I have the same one on mine... You gotta trim back with a sander for AGES to get clearance... works a treat now ![]()

![]() Veteran Posts: 342 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: Radstock | A garage blew my 1.4 engine up - so I went to Motobuild to have a 1.8 and I thought that I would end up with MPI but they retained the spi system. Since then I have uprated the fuel pump, had the FSE altered and a Skoda (dont laugh) 1.6 injector installed to flow more fuel. I would like to move to MPI- but I am not brave enough to convert it myself...

Expert Posts: 11052 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: Wolverhampton | I'd get the proper 1800 gear on it mate as I've heard of SPi gear knackering piston rings as its runs it very lean. All you will need is an MPi loom, plastic inlet with beige injectors, new airfilter, MPi fuel pump (if its not already one), ecu, mfu and 5as. Should set you back about 70 at the very most as thats what I got all my 1600 gear for when I had a 1600 engined Rover 100.

Expert Posts: 11052 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: Wolverhampton | Ah yes I forgot that you will need a 4 pole flywheel. Best thing to do is whip the engine out, fit most of the bits, put it back into the car along with wiring and all the MPi parts. I reckon if you've uprated the fuel pump already you'll be good to go. I reckon I'd do that for peace of mind. Don't wanna scare you but there have been some horror stories with people running SPi on larger engines and this was the reason for me wanting to swap mine over.

![]() Veteran Posts: 342 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: Radstock | I like the way you say "whip" the engine out - i have not got a clue... but I do know the gear box has been upreated with a 216 and the injector is a larger 1.6 jobbie

Expert Posts: 11052 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: Wolverhampton | It aint that a big a job on metro make 10000 times easier with a crane. But any way, depending on how long you have been running this setup you may be ok btu I know what i'd do! PS. you said the engine ran so hot that you needed those vents in the bonnet? Could be a symptom of running lean
