Regular Posts: 159 ![]() ![]() ![]() | Hi all, thanks for having me Let me i8ntroduce myself my name is justin, i live in the midlands, I’m a massive car nut and love anything with 4 wheels ive mostly been into kitcars recently partly due to my hatred of rust, my last car was a Quantum 2+2, i owned it for 4 years and totally rebuilt it and customised many areas of it, if you’re interested this can be read here the full rebuild of my Quantum is here, put aside a week or so to read it though (i do tend to waffle on a bit) http://quantumforum.proboards.com/thread/25/rebuild-diary the car has many many modifications, ill try to remember them remote controlled electric windows, not just a gimmick but needed o force the door glass into the hood side when leaving the car - no leaks whatsoever http://quantumforum.proboards.com/thread/422/remote-controlled-electric-windows there is the sill stiffening / sealing mod, then there is a whole host of cosmetics gauges inc AFR to aid carb tuning ![]() rear ![]() ![]() smooth in fill sierra boot panel, number plate re-located, custom led afterburner rear lights, (these cost over £300 in materials alone) http://quantumforum.proboards.com/thread/737/custom-led-afterburner-rear-lights centre exit exhaust (old recess and number plate lamp hole filled in with gel coat) modified pug 405 boot spoiler turned into a diffuser http://quantumforum.proboards.com/thread/815/rear-diffuser-lower-spoiler-front lexus is200 boot spoiler modified to fit again all is explained in explicit detail how i did each mod on the forum the front ![]() ![]() custom clear side and indicator light units (was mk1 metro as standard) and now front spoiler side, custom wing vents made from pug 205 dash vents http://quantumforum.proboards.com/thread/871/custom-wing-vents ![]() ![]() and most recently wheel arch extensions made from tile trims http://quantumforum.proboards.com/thread/924/wheel-arch-extensions ![]() there is loads more i will have forgotten but please do ask questions if wanted, i miss it (and the 5k ive spent on it) but there’s only one of me and so many nice cars to own out there... Which brings me to my current toy And please don’t lynch me for owning a metro based kit car, ive not been responsible for pulling one apart, in fact that was done some 18 years ago by the manufacturer and this was the original factory demonstrator / prototype and featured in all the kit car magazines back in the day and the press photos http://www.lightauto.com/Richard%20Oakes%20Story.html scroll half way down and you see it in the advert sadly time and subsequent owners have not been so kind to it and its way past its best, http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Midas2Plus2.JPG just before i bought it the plan is to basically do the same with it as i did the Quantum and again make some custom body styling modifications to help with the looks a little, the basic car itself is in good shape, its a total fiberglass monocoque but everything from the metro passes straight over to it, so essentially it is a metro with a lighter body on it and Astra tail lights its fitted with an early GTi engine and it flies, i cant get over how quick it is, easily quicker than the Quantum and that was running 130 BHP its currently undergoing a restoration of the more immediate requirements to make it safe on the road once more and ill post up details in time. the plan is to strip the shody paint job off down to the gel coat and get that polished back up and fit a 1.8 VVc in for good measure im dismayed at the lack of alloy wheels for it (or any metro for that matter) so I’m currently having a set of 15" wheels customised to fit, again more details to follow so this brings me to today, ive a few questions i could do with asking so ill post them in technical. thanks for reading | ||
