yes mate, they are all the same 16v or 8v or vvc

complete head sets are 16v and 8v because of different manifold gaskets

No Chris, its not a necessity to use the MLS gasket but a worthwhile "upgrade" maybe?

Yer well Im Lee GB, i have a lime green metro with a 100cc moped engine and scooby spoiler. Also after an impreza scoop to give it the touch of class. Any cruises around Midlands i can roll up to?

Quick Question

Whats the deal with these steal gaskets? I bought a performace gasket kit from e-bay(link on last page) thinking would be silicon as described in this thead but its steal? Is this alright and is it better than the silicone one?

i've onl;y seen silicon derived ones, just bought one from QED - its a single gasket but the silicon is actually bonded through the gasket as opposed to sitting on top. apparently they're the dogs proverbial plums, and at a meare £28 can't argue

reading that thread, i noticed there was something about a coolant level sensor that is fitted to the header tank to the TF..... wonder if that could be fitted to a tro.... that's something i'm gunna look into doing i think!

If the gasket was a different thickness there would be issues with compression values.

And there are, I'm sure by how much. But the MLS gasket is defenatly thicker, and the compression ration is dropped from 1:10.5 to 1:10.25 as a direct result. (A mk3 gti has a 1:9.5 compression ratio as std, also note that both a 1997 mk3 214si and a metro mk3 Gti have 1.4 103bhp engines, yet the 214si a higher ratio)

I'm pretty much waiting for the first rolling road tests, but I expect a very small decrease in power(upto 2 bhp, but that's a pure guess)

Went to my local Landy garage today to price up the oil rail, and got prices for gaskets and bolts
MLS gasket: £23 +VAT
Uprated oil rail: £29 + VAT
Bolts: £1.28 each + VAT

I'm not sure whether all Land Rover dealers will be the same, but at those prices I think it's worth considering.

are the qed ones not seen as a good replacement? they're the same width as the original so don't change the compression ratio and are supposed to be pretty badass
