Regular Posts: 218 ![]() ![]() Location: Wiltshire | The Metro Owners Club as well as myself have been contacting various suppliers to find out what can be done about the limited (read almost none) supply of the various sizes of tyres specific to Metro's. One of these lines of enquiry has led to the following email being received from Vintage Tyres. "" It looks like we might have limited numbers of a 185/55R13 Camac in stock within a month or so. Initial supplies are limited, so if you know someone who needs them get them to email to add their name to the list now! sales@vintagetyres.com Vintage Tyre Supplies Limited Registered Office: National Motor Museum, Beaulieu, Brockenhurst Hampshire SO42 7ZN Registered Number 723112 "" Now I realise that many do not like Camac's, especially in the wet but, with most "New Tyres" turning up in this size are already several years old, there will come a time where you either change size or rims. If you want to keep the rims and the tyre size, then as they say "Beggers can't be Choosers" until another make is available (which is unlikely) If we want to keep this chance of a limited but hopefuly continuous supply of this size, and the possibility of other sizes coming available, those who have cars with this size of tyre please contact Vintage tyres direct via the address above. The greater number of people who take up there offer the better chance we will have of them sourceing more of this size, and possibly other sizes in the future. My thanks to the Metro Owners club for there effort's, and long may they continue to keep them up, as it helps all owners not just club members. (as is there aim) Mal. Regular Posts: 218 ![]() ![]() Location: Wiltshire | I think the issue will be that if this supply, however limited it may be, has not enough takers, there wont be anymore after. Yes there is a possability that Toyo will resume production, but when?, some firms are saying 12 - 18 months lead time, others are saying that it may not be likely that a size with such a small take up will be continued. Apparently lots of firms in Japan that have suffered from the tsunami etc, are using the rebuild time to "rationalise" there product lines to improve there chances of returning to profitability. Many have lost equipment and machinery to make certain things, and may not see it profitable to have it remade to contnue production. I dont want to sound like a scaremonger, but for whats it's worth you have to be prepared for the fact that there may not be any Toyo's for quite some time to come in this size, or ever. Mal. But good to know there will be a tire still available if the going gets tough, although i wont be using it myself!

Mal. your dead right ont he japan thing, however as long as they havent wiped out there factory/equipment it will be fine, tyre companys say every year they may not be any more... but there always is, as discussed int he section at the bottom best thing is for a big buy of tyres at the end of this summer. anything could happen this year but i may be prepaired to buy a bulk load if i can get a good price. since they sell all the tyres they make every year it must be a profitable product. Regular Posts: 218 ![]() ![]() Location: Wiltshire | I know the big brands still make 185 /55/ 13 for the asian market as well as 165/60/13. ( I have seen them listed on Asia Tyre In singapore) But for what ever reason (quality standards I suppose) they are not for the EU or UK markets, and cannot be imported legally. It's just a pain that there are such limited supplys in the Uk. Edited by Mg Mal 21/1/2012 1:17 PM

The day i have no other choice than camac is the day i never drive another metro. If you want certain death at least Camac is more certain than smoking and cheaper....

Regular Posts: 218 ![]() ![]() Location: Wiltshire | I dont know why some of you are so anti Camac, and insist that anyone who has them wqill face "instant death" on the road. Of course they are not as good in the wet as other branded tyres, but if you buy cheaper tyres due to budget / availability............. Just don't drive like an idiot. I have had minor issues with them, when mixed with other brands in the wet, but when a full set is fitted no issues at all. There are owners out there who do auto test's and gymkana's with these tyres fitted and have no issues. So you will quit your metro if they end up the only choice? thats up to you.
