Ok so after some log in issues abit more of an update.

Car is now running with a mems3 ECU with 160BHP.

Immediate difference is power seems to come in more progressively than with the mems2 set up so less wheel spin and car seems to take off better than before.

Cannot praise the advice and work done by Chris at MG lifesytle (http://www.mglifestyleuk.co.uk/) .. it was a fair drive (about 1hr 3omins up the M6 and over the M62) but recommendation was from kmaps to use Chris as I plan to get a remap to 175BHP now that I have the ECU hardware installed.

If anyone is thinking of doing a mems2 to mems3 conversion then MG lifesytle is strongly recommended as Chris will provide you with a list of parts you need or he can source them on your behalf and do the install.

A week of trials and tribulations this week with the 100 ... developed a miss fire and would not rev above 3000 rpm. After changing plugs then leads as the obvious things to check problem was tracked down to the coil packs.

Also due to changes in MSA sprint regulations running a mod production car, unfortunately adds more cost to running the car for this year in the form of HANS device, a new helmet to attach to it to and mods to the rollbar to accommodate the new position of the harness to get the angle right for the HANS.

Since the upgrade to mems3, new rubber will be added this weekend in the form of Yokohama A-048Rs... looking forward to trying them out at Curborough on the 17th as it's their intro to sprinting event day and a good place to try all the new stuff out before running in a few events again.

Still hoping to get 175bhp mid season but see how it goes.

short update .. Car has had 5mm spacers fitted to the rear and a fresh flush of hydro fluid. Also decided to run the car perminantley on 13" wheels and corrected the ride height to suite.

Ran it this weekend at Curborough on the 2 lap (long course) sprint and my god what a difference... found nearly 3 secs smashing my PB and got a 3rd equal result to boot!

Next job to fit the bucket seat ready for the next event after my holidays.

It's offical .. I now own a MSA approved road legal sprint car .. MSA log book arrived yesterday. This allows access to sticker 1C tyres and if so deemed necessary slicks which most people run in the modified production classes.

good day today with the Rover 100.. finally got my bucket seat fitted with the help of a very knowledgeable chap when it comes to sprint racing Metros... Custom made runners made from 5mm thick aluminium angle and 5mm flat sections which still use the existing mounts yet seat sits lower than standard as desired. Took a few hours to do and a lot of measuring, checking before cutting and drilling but really pleased with the result as seat fits perfect, is very secure and surprisingly comfortable.

Well.. it was the last Sprint of the season for me and was a very wet one at Curborough on Saturday.

Really pleased with the season end to finish 3rd out of seven in class and 4th out of 8 overall but no trophy as it was based on the overall result.

Car was running great even though a few aquaplanes occurred due to hitting standing water ... YOKO A048s were ok otherwise

Winter stuff will include sourcing 13" or 14" 6j wheels for next year as would like to try slicks next season

touch up paint work and a Kmaps remap to utilise the slicks potential

Possibly looking to solid mount the rear to improve handling and some camber dialing in before the next season

Shot of the Rover coming down the straight at speed and I think reflects the fun had on the day..

winter lay up started .. so back into the garage for looking to gain more pace through the corners.

first thing to look to, getting rid of the sound deadening material in the floor pan on the boot,passenger and driver sides.

If you plan to do this this I can recommend when it's cold as is the right time to remove it.

The cold makes the sound proofing brittle so just tapped over it with a hammer before chipping it away with a wood chisel removes it in fair sized chunks.

Taking about an hour or so per area but not a difficult thing to do.

So far with the boot and passenger side chipped out, I reckon I have removed around 6 Kgs of "dead weight" so far.

Saving the chippings to see exactly how much it weighs just out of curiosity and will post the weigh in when the job is done for those looking to trim every ounce.

passenger side .. but just got to remove extinguisher bracket and go a bit further up the foot well.

To be honest surprised on how clean the car is under being nearly 20 years old.

Thanks DotMatrix.. hopefully will be much better when done as will be giving the floor a good clean up and anywhere I see orange it will be stripped right back treated then zinc primed before repainting.

Then have about 3 or 4 bits on the out side to do but will probably get those done professionally and get the car mopped so she looks her best for next season

After the MOT the 100R had an advisory that there was corrosion on the sills that needed attention so decided to get that addressed this winter.
Through a member of the family, I was recommended a brilliant company that specializes in automotive welding so the 100R was dropped off to get a quote for what I presumed would just be a patch repair on the sills.... oh how wrong could I have been ... the sills were rotted out, arches were shot and the floor was also in need of attention.

Sills were that bad that really the only option was to replace them completely .. luckily Metro Man Rover Spares came up trumps with a pair of sills and from what I can work out were probably the only remaining set in the West Midlands as was having a hard time sourcing them.

The metro has been at the welders for about a week so went to see how it was going. Sills were welded in and fitted perfectly. As I plan to put in bigger wheels with slicks this year I had the arches cut back to good metal along with seam welding so that I have plenty of room and the lip is clean and strong.

The floor has had the rot removed, plated and reinforced again with seam welding to add rigidity to the chassis.

A little job that ended up being a tonne of work but on the upside its had some good restoration work that has given the car the chance to be driven a few more good years on and off track.

Want to give a big thanks to Metro Man (97 Warwick Rd, Birmingham B11 2EL/0121 708 0006) for the hard to find sills and Steve at J&S Autos
(Unit 1 Oak St, Quarry Bank, Brierley Hill, West Midlands, DY5 2JH/01384 569200) for under taking the mammoth task of welding up the 100R to better than new.
