Just uploaded some pics of the engine bay to aid the re-assembly. From the pre-purchase inspection. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

![]() Regular Posts: 117 ![]() Location: New Zealand | I picked up my front bumper from the plastic welders. They have added a bit of extra MEAT for me to work with....the plastic with the bracket, which bolts to the front fender had broken off. ![]()

![]() '88 MG METRO 1300 Posts: 1117 ![]() ![]() Location: Dudley, Midlands | It's just melting the plastic together. Some strips of the same material, some shaped tool 'bits', and basically a soldering iron!! Do need it to run at a lower temp though, ABS liquifies at about 115C, soldering iron heats up to more like 160C.

![]() Regular Posts: 117 ![]() Location: New Zealand | Yes, what Marv said. It's basically melting like plastics together. They use a special heat gun and plastic rods. I gave the man special instructions to be careful, due to the fact that the bumper is not painted at all. It cost about $40NZD. https://youtu.be/HvV9a3lEe2g Edited by Benmin 19/7/2015 5:03 AM

Only have to look at the corners of uPVC double glazing frames to know thermoset plastics can be 'welded'. Mate worked at a SMART repair franchise training and repair centre... they used what looked like a soldering iron (can't vouch for the max temp) run through a dimmer switch for temp control! Ruins a textured surface though, so care needed on visible unpainted areas as Ben rightly says! Although textured bumper paint is available to recreate the finish over a smooth repair.

![]() Regular Posts: 117 ![]() Location: New Zealand | I have made a little more progress this week. The dashboard and instruments are back in. All the lights are working. The blower operates correctly, and the vents and flaps all seem to be operating correctly. A funny thing I didn't notice previously, is the factory Alpine digital cassette stereo has only AM. I am thinking I might do a dummy setup and put a Mech less Bluetooth head unit in the glovebox. ![]()

My assumption is based on the fact that I have another stereo exactly the same on the shelf from my other MK2. NZ market maybe?

![]() Regular Posts: 117 ![]() Location: New Zealand | thought I had better get the back seats sorted since the interior is going back together. This would include getting the red stripe stitched in to both of them. I could make a separate thread. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

![]() Regular Posts: 117 ![]() Location: New Zealand | She is back on the ground, both rear swing arms rebuilt. I have rebuilt the brakes etc also. Recharged the rear cans with nitrogen. And refitted the stainless muffler. Also refitted the front screen as-per the thread from the technical page. ![]()

![]() Regular Posts: 117 ![]() Location: New Zealand | I have discovered today, whilst in the midst of what turned out to be the tedious task of removing the glass sealer from the windscreen. That my AM stereo does in fact have FM, I just needed to push the band button ![]() Headlights are back in and operational. Both front and rear windscreen washers need attention, there is noise but no squirt. ![]()
