If I were you I wouldn't convert to discs on the rear. We tried it and even with a brake bias valve fully adjusted to the front as much as possible, the rears still worked too well. We ended up cutting 50% of the rear pad material off to compensate. Waste of time and effort when the drums work more than well enough. Most importantly though! the handbrake is rubbish with discs!

I raced both with and without discs on the rear. You obviously have aswell then and must've tried and tested various pads also. I'm just trying to help a fellow metro enthusiast out and get the best from his car. I hate seeing people get bad advice and spending money on things that only make it worse.

I'm with Luti on this one... Functionally there's nothing wrong with the drums on the back.

I've got rear discs because I'm a tart!

I'm with Luti on this one... Functionally there's nothing wrong with the drums on the back.

I've got rear discs because I'm a tart!

LOL! I agree, they do look better and if you just want the look then go for it. I was just worried that it was seen as a performance upgrade.

Disks would mabye save a bit of rotational weight? If the drums work fine i would just go for alloy drums

Again im with luti on this, Drums are fine, discs are ok for looks, but that's it a metro is just too light for rear discs.

When your rebuilding the engine, are you going to put a real gearbox on it?

So far I've only come across one person who has rear disks who says they perform better/equally to drums.

Yeah in this thread! Ha

Majority seem to think they lock up the rear far too easily.

thanks to daz again for the help yesterday...exhaust fitted, rear undercoated, engine running tried to fit arb yesterday but the last owner put a budget bottom arm in on the passenger side so now need to buy 2 bottom arms as the arb cant be fitted to the bottomarm as there is no hole so just going to replace both arms for use with wider track tyres

Did you know the 185 wishbone has a bigger ball joint? Not the end of the world but youll either have to change ball joints or enlarge the ball joint hole in the hub

No problem, easy for any engineering place to do, would let someone experienced do it for you as youll want it in exactly the right position (concentric with original) or it will put tracking out, bit dont go handing over daft money as its a simple task with a milling machine

you dont need to change hub as these are all the same
its the ball joints that are diffrent
they have a diffrent geometry
size of ball joint pin in hub is same
155 tyre ball joints and 185 tyre balljoints are diffrent

Big brake (Front) or disc brake conversion (Rear)?

A bit of advice... dont get a women to help you bleed the brakes, my missis was pumping the clutch pedal for 5 min, i was wondering why no fluid was coming thru!

well next upgrade is a clifford alarm thanks to dave aston.
thinking of putting a silencer box in the exhaust to quieten it down a touch seen some custom ones on demon tweeks for 63 pound.
18" in length 2"internal diameter which should fit nicely in the centre section.
now indivdualised ready to be pumped up.
got to use a pressure bleeder on the brakes.
thanks to daz booker for all his help so far.

Bonus rang my insurance today to declare the engine legally and guess what it's not cost me anymore but put my excess up by £250. On the condition I fit relevant brakes.just goes to show being honest doesn't have to be expensive.

A few niggles to iron out

1 brake pipe was leaking but now sorted
suspension too low on the rear. bottomed out over a bump and the wheel hit the wheel arch and bent it... Got to put some bigger rods in now to stop it.i think maybe 24mm off the rear was too much so going to put -10mm ones back in

Mate what did you spray your car with? You got a compressor or using rattle cans? If rattle cans, then why the f*ck can't I do a bleedin' spoiler without it running or getting shit stuck all over it?

i used a compressor dude but with spray cans its very easy.do it in a warm garage and dust coats on ie just mist the paint on.build up coats rather than thick coats.leave 5mins or so between coats or use a heat gun.do several coats until covered

200lb of explosives, made to look like a power cap that's made to look like 200lb of explosives.
That's my guess anyway. Not so subtle really!

Thats a basic mems3 F/TF exhaust manifold and downpipe. It is essentially a 4-2-1, however you will have to cut the downpipe after the flexi section and then make up the rest of the exhaust which you will have to do out odf the same quality and finish stainless, otherwise IMO its pointless fitting sections.

lol yep

It will change the note, and will be quieter to start with thats for sure but you may find it gets louder with use, always go for the quiested silencer's as that way you end up with the sound you want and not something that was spot on but now a noise

Changed the backbox as the centre section that i ordered was mistakenly replaced with a £150 stainless cherrybomb backbox thankyou to jjl for messing up but il gladly accept the more costly item lol.so ive removed the powerflow backbox and utualised it as a centre silencer so now all my exhaust is t-304 stainless from block to rear and it makes a really big difference.

Love the 'zorst! However yeah, heatwrapping will protect the engine from heatsoak, therefore giving it more bang.

yes but also heat it up to extreme heats which aint good on an ali engine, plus f***ing itchy when you have to do any work near it

I wouldn't bother wit heat wrap, who works on there engine when its toasty hot anyway, and alot of times exhaust headers get het wrapped they tend to crack!

The missis is using the turbo pal so i need to sell the tro she wont drive it cause its too quick lol even at the side of the turbo...not only that its not big enough for her.i could choose to keep the metro but it means bumping up the mileage and exposing it to a lovely housing estate where i work and it will get vandelised.or i could store it but then that would mean running more cars.

hi mate test is roughly 6 months and taxed for 6 months.not looking for a cheap quick sale as alot of time and money has gone into the car and as ive said im in no immediate rush to sell but it would be convienient as i need a cheap run around for work.
