 Regular Posts: 117  Location: New Zealand | Time to start a journal for my mk2 turbo. When I purchased and picked her up she had been sitting in dry storage for about 4 years. The seller had managed to get her running and so I was able to take her for a test drive. Even climbimg into the drivers seat brought memories flooding back. On the road test (with the suspension mostly flat) the turbo boost was strong and smooth but the clutch was slipping. The brakes worked well cvs are click free. She was still going to need some work but purchased her knowing that there are not many left here in New Zealand. Here she is the day we got her home.   | ||

She has had a light rear ender at some stage, so that may explain the window rubber. I'll upload pictures of the contents of the glove box shortly.  Can anyone tell me how much the mk2 has in common with the MGF? (We have plenty of them being parted out here) | ||

Regular Posts: 117 Location: New Zealand | It's been a bit quiet around here on Mk2 Turbo front, but we are coming into our summer so should be able to get more time with her.... I picked up my radiator and heater core from the specialists this week. The heater core needed the pipes rebuilt, and was given a hearty flush. As for the radiator, I had three of them and only one of them was any good. The one that was revived had both tanks off, received a thorough clean and received two new tank O-rings. I am not really thrilled with the condition of the finning as it appears to be rotting. It's a two core unit which I am not sure if it is suitable for the Turbo application - (the other two I had were single core style, of which I have kept the tanks from). Hopefully there are some Metsperts on here than can shed some light on that for me......Otherwise I will tentatively use this one for the time being and then look into my options. The blower operates correctly, and the vents and flaps all seem to be operating correctly. A funny thing I didn't notice previously, is the factory Alpine digital cassette stereo has only AM. I am thinking I might do a dummy setup and put a Mech less Bluetooth head unit in the glovebox.  | ||

Regular Posts: 117 Location: New Zealand | I have discovered today, whilst in the midst of what turned out to be the tedious task of removing the glass sealer from the windscreen. That my AM stereo does in fact have FM, I just needed to push the band button  Although my son was more intrigued playing the authentic 80s cassettes I have stashed in the glovebox and cassette holder. Try explaining to a 7yo that pushing the numbers on the stereo face does not skip to the next song. Headlights are back in and operational. Both front and rear windscreen washers need attention, there is noise but no squirt.  | ||

Mine would run superb in the winter months but in the summer it was really lumpy. Would be interesting to see what difference an intercooler would do.  | ||

I had to remove the radiator, due to both tanks leaking - the one that I fitted is not the one that I had repaired earlier in the thread. So fortunately I was able to get the new seals from my originally repaired radiator, fitted to the one with the better core. I have also been battling with the left front Hydra can. I am now on to my third one but seem to have got it now - its a little soul destroying coming out to see the Metro in the morning sitting on just one bump stop.  But we got there in the end. Replaced the reverse light switch, and did I mention I've had her running? Slam panel back in....Sorting out the pipe from the air box to the turbo was a bit on an A$$ also.  I did mention I got her running again aye. (I forgot the grill  )  The wheel centers will go on after we get a wheel alignment. | ||

Regular Posts: 117 Location: New Zealand | Clean sheeted(?) a WOF check today(nz version of a MOT I believe). I'm pretty pleased about that. We have however started running very rich at idle. I have reset the float level etc, cleaned at all the gunk. refitted the carb and found, what I think looks like a pin hole leak at the main fuel supply brass pipe. Can anyone tell me if these can be replaced? or should I try hit it with some sil-fos? Fresh photo with the grille fitted and a new WOF!  | ||

While I was in there, I replaced the very sad choke seals. (I will post more pics later as I managed to delete all the recent ones off my phone.)  | ||

Regular Posts: 117 Location: New Zealand | On the weekend of the 1st of October the family and I took the Turbo for her maiden outing. To an event called Brits at the Beach. The journey to the beach was magic, 160ish km that included so twisty coastal road there to an in general wet event. The rear suspension was still a bit harsh but none the less a very enjoyable trip. Of the 360+ cars in attendance there were no other Metro's at all. So we hung out with the Minis.  The blue Mini belongs to my father, the yellow one is mine also. At our humble accommodation, in Whangamata, New Zealand.  We woke up on Sunday morning and found that the drivers side front was sitting on it's stops. So, of course, there only thing to do was level the rest of them out for the final day and the trip home.  Father son pic.  Please ignore the wonky grill!  | ||

(she did confess that before we sold our previous Turbo in the '00s. In her final drive in it, right before the people arrived to take it away, she got it up to 165kph!) There are also some Muppets still out there, that don't really appreciate how rare these cars are. I have recently sorted out the leaky suspension can, and am just getting ready to lower her properly. Here are some picks of a recent trip with our Mini brothers to Raglan beach, New Zealand. Regular Posts: 117 Location: New Zealand | The family and I went for a drive with the local Vintage and Classic Car Club on Sunday. Whilst we are well into our summer her in NZ,it was wet, but mild in temperature. The Metro has developed a few issues that will need attention in the near future....such as the high beam lights have stopped working - I suspect a switch fault at this stage due to the fact that the high beam flash still operates. One of the pins which secures the lever fir the sunroof has disappeared. The stereo keeps on loosing is memory. And the front resonator of the exhaust system has started making and odd tingling noise which is very noticeable at idle. This may well be deleted from said system. Below Arapuni Dam, NZ.   | ||
