I'm guessing its to do with the fuel pump. The carb mechnical one isn't there so it must have another sort.

Also on a H reg it would of had the early cam cover and thats the later type.
I'm guessing the engine was from a very late R100 MPi as the mechnical fuel pump hole is blanked out of the casting of the head. On early Spi cars it has a bolted on blank which can be easily removed.

Really like the car, look in very good condition.

Location: Guildford		Looks to me like a damp liner rocker cover and the damp liner was not available with a carb so its probably a cam with the drive spigot for a direct distributor cap/arm but modified to run the fully centrefugal distributor setup. Would be interesting to see how the conversion peice had been made, it should be sound enough but I'd want more than 2 peices of threaded bar to hold the distributor in place as its not like an injection setup, any little rotation of the dizzy will have drastic effects on the performance of the engine.

There is a bolt through the adaptor too, further backing up the fact there is a distributor drive peg in there.

Location: Guildford		Looks like the ideal car to be upgraded to MPI, imagine popping the bonnet on an H reg to se a plastic inlet manfiold, even more trick if you spray the ECU hanger that color too, that color is synonimous with the base level models so it would be nice to see one packing technology.

With a bit of luck it will have been fitted with the electric pump from the same donor car but I bet its got a facet pump fitted, maybe an MG one.

Hi guys

havnt been on in a while since, selling, but that looks like a neet tro,

as to regarding the GTI brakes under GTA rims, on those wheels they wont fit....

i had to get hold of the MPI wheels as they are a thinner inner casting, those GTA rims have a real deep inner wall which means you end up with the caliper touching the wheel..... its a pitty too cos you have the wide GTA wheels too, (like mine)

Location: gods country		started to build my sub box 2day it going to be a fiberglass dome holding a 10inch but where i am putting it is the smart thing (hope it aint been done)...but u will have to wait till its finished..got a couple pics. also it my 1st time fiberglassing

Location: gods country		i also fitted my bumper strips and b piller covers 2 nyt as you can see i drilled 6/7 3mm holes where the clips fit in bumper then cut them out nd the strips slotted straight in

The attension to detail is superb on this car. The red lines make it look much more sporty.
The B pillar covers also help make the interior look a bit more high spec instead of big painted area.

Location: gods country		i saqid about an unique mod last nyt, i dont think its ever been do but cud be wrong.. its a sun roof holder on the back of the seats, i was kindly donated 2 sainsburys baby straps out the seats in a trolly and screwed them to the back of ma seats with 6 mm long screws and couple washers

Location: gods country		aprox 6 weeks ago now i took a trip to conventry to pick up some gti calpiers, ebc discs and pads, paid £50 for it all got it home then took it off the road to ft them on the sunday5 weeks later i finaly got it running again, what happend? well after swaping the calipers over i found out that the master cylinder was pump fluid to the front pass and rear drivers. so i replaced it nd bled the brakes, it started up with a jump off ma dads old gti was runnig proper lumpy, nd there was a hiss come them around the servo.
took it to ma machanic nd he said servo had gone.£229 +vat from from ma work went to srcrappers got a lyk 8/9 month old one for £10 put it in , still had a hissin, replaced to seals in the master, was a little better when tickin over. still hissed tho. started to look over the carb and found out that 1 of them little black ends on the red and yellow pipes i have, had perished causing air to get sucked in and thas causing the engine to run lumpy, replace that andit ticked over nice happy. THE END

Location: gods country		i think they are for sale i bought the old ones brand new still in wrapping so i dont know how much to sell them for have been offered £100 quid 4 them

errm not yet i forgot all about it plus the engines dead, got it on to the drive this morning then 2 nyt pulled it bk in to the garage had foot full to floor in reverse and it was hitting 3tho rpm then cut out nd wouldnt tick over agen so had to push it the rest of the way

Location: gods country		approx 16 days to go until m298 roe comes to its new homefor the last couple weeks of its life, am takin the heart (engine) outa a really nice car and putting it in to my body....full converstion from carb to injection..i beleave all i will need to convert for spi to the vvc is a mpi fuel pump and engine ecu and loom then ...hopefully all will be done before mgm

work on my conversion to injection is starting 2 moro as "roo" arrived 2day, bless shes in a ryt state.

to day i been busy taking my interior out, door cards off, lifting the carpet, removing the clocks and dash.
i also started to remover the loom from behind the dash its out from the rear and the from the drivers side head light and all sat in the pass foot well waiting to pushed through to the enginge bay to be thrown.
my steering column is lose and laid in the footwell waiting to be unbolted from the steering rack.

all in all a rather good day i think

Location: gods country		quick update on sat afternoon i managed to take the rad out and the madifold of and finish pulling the loom outa the car, i disconected all the fuel pipes to the engine and all of the other cables that join to the engine. today i took a "little" trip to muzzas to pick up my spare td motorsports then when i got back i drained off both fuel tanks and got 5 jerry cans outa it. WHICH I HAVE SOLD TO MA DAD for £20....and yeah given half a chance i would sell my mum...with a no returns policy lmfao

1st thing is SRY CJ

i managed to get the engine out, all the fuel lines out, fuel tank off and the filler neck out, all while mother nature was try to make up her mind.

Location: gods country		yeah not a prob, un known to me it poped the front bolt out where it hold the tank to the body..inc the nut, and thats sealed in prity well.i didnt notice it till i ma dad said i spent 10 mins undoing 1 nut. its good to see how the body absorbes the impact tho the damage goes from the rear boot ryt up to the rear seat belt bolt on the arches

Location: gods country		2 days work after shoveling snow for 30 mins just to get to the cars i cracked on takin the loom out off roo. there just some odd and ends in there to be taken out now, i got further than i expected in mine aswell, i managed to get the loom fully fit and the heater/ blower tubes refitted and got the dash back in too...heres the pics

Location: gods country		just a lil update i got my down pipe from work 2 day and got it home then sprayed it up to match the rest of the exhaust. my dad started to clean up the engine last weekend with a steam clean and a wire brush then 2day he got some paint put on to in and i have to say it looks almost new will look very tidy in the engine bay i hope anyway lol

Location: gods country		2days update...been a good day 2day so worked on the car. managed to swap the suspension over along with the discs and wheels. i then moved on the front arb which i will re-ajust when on the car and also the gear linkages had to be swapped over. i have fit the manifold on and the down pipe 2day aswell

so my plan for 2 moro is get all the aux stuff fitted in fill the girl with water and fuel and see if she starts up

Location: gods country		my car is alive after 6 weeks, 73 cups of coffee, 27 chocolate biscuits and around 10 bacon buttys. after a lil trouble with the fuel i bridged the fuel switch and it primed and fired straigh up....just got a couple of things to do to it now arb suspension presure...you know the lil bits and bats

looking good buddy i got mine bbrand new date stamped a week before the tax ran out on the car i took it off from the scrappers i got black parcel shelf boot carpet and arch covers in carpet interior plastics diesel rad and speaker holders and a few other parts 15 quid.

Location: gods country		done and got a lot of stuff for the car over the past couple of weeks, got the tyres paid for nd delivered wheels booked in nd are now done nd finished,purchesed my mgf disc,r200 rear pads nd rear calipers,got the braided hose kit for the disc conversion.

have painted the calipers black which will match the front, and am goin to be running red stuff pads.i have all so converted my desiel rad but have not yet installed it.

monday nyt i jacked the car up to start on the rear discs, then last byt i decided to drop the whole rear subby out for cleanin.

i will post all my pics up 2nyt

p.s took 2 trips to scrapers over 2 weeks nd found my self a mint condition set of rubber metro mats for £2

Location: gods country		been busy since last post i sprayed the rear subby in satin black to give a original look, got given 2 brand new radius arms from work( stock clense) saved over £60 quid got me other droop stop made up.

will let pics do the talkin.










yesterday i got the subby fixed bk onto the car attached my braided hoses, bleed the calipers, hooked up the handbrake and reattached the rear arb





saturday night i won a pg1 s1 gearbox on ebay with 18000 miles in great condition, i have only spent 1hr on the box and i think it looks the dogs lol i think i will just spray over it with clear vht to keep that new look






all i donne is take a electric drill with a wire brush attchment, aint used any polish yet.

Location: Midlands		Cracking job of the gearbox tho... and the VHT clear lacquer is great stuff... just not restiant to battery acid. The battery in my SI exploded in the crash and has corroded my what was mint gearbox Looks like i shall be getting nifty with the wire brush also!

Nor has my mk1 A-series as its older than the first metros with them from the factory which is a pain as I would of fitted them to it instead.

I'm just going to keep a look out for K-series ones. At least I got the window rubber seals which don't always get sold with the glass.

for the first time in 18 months of ownin the car and modin it IT HAS TOTALLY F***ED ME OFF 2NYT i re did all the suspension last nyt put new fulid in it after reconin my pump and pumped it all level and the presure while near spot on


2nyt gone in the garage and its sat to 1 bloody side

went to chop 1 inch of the gear leaver to shorten the shift a little more ended up havin to go 2 the scrap yard and get another leaver

rant over.....

Then get it in for mot

Don't know wheather to paint the fuel lines black or wire wool them down and grease them up

try camskill tyre on the net thats where i get mine from...u just have to find a garage to fit them but get done quite cheap somewhere i sure

I have kept my srs light even tho there's no ligh in the steering wheel I have wired back through the rotating thing behind the wheel and into a spare switch on the dash

i got 2 front lower arms today from work there the mgf ones... as when i fit the subby i have in now i got told that the ball joint was bent and then i hit a pot hole on the other side which prob bent that arm 2 anyway its a good job i got 2 new arms.. i must say i am very upset with my self that i didnt notice it

also replaced anitroll bar link and bush











only got 1 side done tho

Location: gods country		managed to finish my wing mirror loom off the other day (after it been sat in my room for 2 years) only pulled my fingure out because i got the wing mirrors from work dirt cheap had to repair one with a bit from a metro mirror tho...right where the wires pass throught pain in the arse but managed ok

anyway just followed the how to guide and fitting was easy just need to paint them














finishing touch( had these stored away for ages)

Location: Gloucester		its not too much effort to fit the rover steering wheel remote which works with that radio. The remote unscrews from the steering wheel and you can cut a slot in yours to fit it. Make sure your steering wheel has the holes for the screws first though. I've not seen a steering wheel which hasn't yet.

Location: gods country		thank you i have loads of after market stereos in my car and when my dad the mgf he had a cd changer it was the r960 with built in display and tape deck it looked ok but wasnt what i was after so i opted for the r860 with stand alone display

while i was at the scrap yard i saw a rover 400 with tweeters built in to the inside wing mirror blanks



i already have some in me door cards it just got me thinking so might go back next weekend and get them if there still there

i think i have figured out how to mount the display on my dash too soo will post couple of pics up whilst im doing that

Location: gods country		i got me iso lead through the post the other day i tried the cd changer and it was broke...so i took it apart and found the the cd tray had been ramed in and had got stuck under the laser too so i dismantled it a lil more till i could free both of them, then i put it all back togeather and set about the tray, the screw lug had snapped so i couldnt rescrew it so i held it togeather heated up a srewdriver and plastic welded it .

seems to have worked too ihave also fitted a steering wheel remote

2 moro gunna set about that subframe i bought a couple of months ago clean it up and cut off the excess bits then get it to paint

had my brotherinlaw make me up the front bump stops after he did the rear ones last year

Location: gods country		i spent most of today doin the display and after 4 hour gave up on the idea of the dash suround covering it so i cut the hole out and placed it in there with a metal holding divice to keep it in place then 2 moro i think in guna have a crack at it again but using the old tape holder as this is a lot thinner













this after i set about the subframe and got the excess metal cut off

alos painted the subframe too and made a start putting what parts i have back on it

Location: Up in the lakes		what hydragas units are they ending in '010'? nice work going new on everything. like the idea of the r400 tweeter location. may have to keep my eye open for them. had comps in my old tro and the biggest ballache was positioning the tweeters where they were effective and looked smart. opted for coaxs for ease now.

Wana know as ive got a set at home. A pair ending in '020' and a pair ending '070' dont wana go throwing the wrong set om mine.

Location: gods country		bit more work done over last couple days...fitted new alternator, new starter, new crank sensor and got a new lamba to fit too when i get my front pipe sorted,, ordered a braided hose kit today for front calipers and clutch, painted up my calipers took them right back to bare metal and started from scratch!

had my f/pipe welded
finished wrapping the manifold
bought another mgtf rad that fits 100% better than my last one
bought the ecu and fob
fitted new rad
samcos arrived
brake lines arrived
etc etc

oo and got rid of the old engine too

finished installing the wiring hooked up the ecu, fitted the battery tray, flexi clutch hose and fitted the top coolant

























still to do list....

sorh a standerd air box that dont catch the clutch slave
fit front n/s caliper
fit front arb
fuel pump
charge up battery
cut decat pipe down and refit
purchase piper exhaust
cut down front suspension as its a lil high on mgf rods (any help with what to chop off)

If you have a friend who can weld I'd move that bleed point on the top pipe to the highest position possible, as the new hose your using goes up a little air can be both trapped in the top of the metal top pipe and in the top of that hose, best thing you could do is as your filling it try to push it down to encourage air to go to the bleed point.

Location: Midlands		That should do it fine, as I remember I made a bracket to mount the airbox forward by about an inch, which helps it fit around the slave cylinder.... As I remember! We are talking 2007 here!

Location: gods country		not much work dune on the tro since I last posted, and not much will follow over the next couple of months as me and the tro are moving out on our own adventure I want her road worthy by the summer tho all I have to really do is get it mot'ed taxed and insured, oh and all the engine work declared... after a lot of thinking theres only one way to go and to make it 100% legal don't want to risk my hard work going to the crusher!!

I have done a couple of bits since my last tho and when I can next get internet access I will be sure to get pics up of the hard graft!

Location: gods country		been a wile yet again since i posted and i still feel no closer to having it back on the road i am on the other hand still cracking on the the little jobs that need doing

started with trying to fix the sideskirts on properly













change the o/s tre while i was there



found a solution for the cold airfeed









repainted the ecu holder as it started to flake





done a very tiny bit of ocd cleaning too
