Thought it would be a good idea to get a list together of all the insurers we use as we all know its getting harder to get reasonable quotes now (plus im stuggling myself to find affordable insurance on the GTa) and we do get a few threads on this. The List: Adrian Flux Performance Direct Sky Insurance Admiral (Don't cover engine transplants) RAC Insurance Graham Sykes Chris Knott Equity Red Star Greenlight Brentacre Footman James (For under 25 classic insurance) Cheers Andy

Best thing i can think of doing is ill update my original post with all of the names of the insurers that come up in this thread and then we can all leave comments about them in posts below, so people can first off see which insurers are out there and then see what we think of them after. Dont really need any posts about how expensive a company may be because its different for every single person but posts like the above are very helpful/useful ![]()

Not horrific however the other car, my BMW isnt coming in as a great quote therefore i have been looking at insuring both cars separately. I have been getting quotes of over £550! The big name companies simply do not want to touch it... be it the age or modifications im not quite sure! Now awaiting a call back from Flux to see what they come up with. Ok, said it the wrong way round.. Get your parents put on YOUR policy as named drivers - as long as their licence is clean your premium should come down. Its a metro so if you crash it the car will more than likely be a write off - so no need to go anything other than 3rd party fire+theft. Unless this is mute by not being fully comp - offer to pay a higher excess premium. It will cost you more if you prang it & make a claim, but the actual policy should be a little cheaper. If you can afford to.. pay the policy off in 1 go! Save getting hit by the APR (15-30%) from the 'loan'. Maybe get your folks to pay & then pay them back in instalments (interest free) - will cost the same but not in 1 go & each month will be cheaper than whatever insurers would charge for the same thing. Finally as Andy says.... phone up the companies direct (not just direct line - ALL of them)! Quotes from comparison sites can give you a rough guide as to cost.. but ALWAYS phone direct & give the company the details they need to process you properly - comparison sites don't always give all the needed details to a company so your comparison quote is more of a best guess than an actual quote. AFAIK if you go for a quote from a comparison site & then make a claim - if all the details that are required by that company were not given by the comparison site (cause they didn't ask you for those specific details) then you may find that not having provided that information when taking the policy means your policy is void. I use comparison sites as a guide.. but have NEVER agreed to taking a policy through one. I phone the top ones directly & get quotes over the phone. Go for a paperless policy to save trees & save the insurer billing you for those trees ![]() http://www.driving-test-success.com/passed/car_insurance.html

You dont have a 111 tho do you... its a 1.4 8v. You need a modified car policy which at the age of 18 with 0 ncb you will be pissing in the wind im afraid. Im this day of age you need a bog standard sub 1.2 engined car to get reasonable insurance quotes. Dont even think about modifications.

Your quote sounds quite reasonable. How does it affect your policy if you have a male provisional on as a named driver? Edited by OrangeManDan 9/3/2012 4:36 PM

I wrote off a 2005 Focus last year (but they gave me my NCB anyway) and have 3pts for speeding from 2009, so at just-20 with 3pts & a claim but 2yrs NCB the insurance companies were quoting me £3k+ for the 2002 Frog Auto 1.2l I was driving at the time. Me and the missus together (she is 25, new driver, passed her test September, no NCB) are paying under £3k for both of our cars now - she drives a Rover 25 1.1l and obviously I've got the 1.4 GSi. Having a woman handy is always useful when it comes to the insurance loan sharks, it seems!

Premium is £200 cheaper than Adrian Flux's renewal quote - but the Sykes quote I have doesn't offer 3rd party cover on other vehicles.. very handy to have that piece of mind if I drive Steph's or my mums car (or any car with owners permission!) Just seeing if another broker through them will offer that..

![]() Lotus powered R100 MP Admin ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: Torbay, South Devon, UK | Gone with Flux.. cause they matched Sykes price ![]() Premium itself - £295 (£300 excess - £90 windscreen) am 30, 8 years ncb (unprotected), fully comp, all mods declared, car value of £1000 on paper, can drive others cars 3rd party! £2 cheaper than Sykes (for just premium) but with Flux I have agreed value & can drive other cars! ![]() Gone for a few extras so I actually paid £343.99 total... gone for the personal accident cover for an extra £15 & some sort of new fangled thing costing £33.99 which means if I make a claim I don't pay the excess... effectively a premium of £328.99 with £0 excess! sweeeet! ![]() If this new fangled thing doesn't read on paper as well as it did on the phone I can cancel it within 14 days & get refunded. ![]()
